We are able to purchase a horse at weaning, when will that be?

Weaning usually occurs at six months although this depends very much on the needs of the foal/mare as their wellbeing is paramount. Once a foal is taken away from it's mother we prefer to keep them on our property for a month longer to ensure the foal is not put under too much stress. Being taken from it's Mum is stressful enough without a long journey immediately after. We do not ask for full payment until the foal is properly weaned which is when we are sure it is ready to travel. Our horses are all given the best possible start in life and we ask that this is respected by those making a purchase. We want to ensure you have a strong, fit and healthy horse and we will do all we can to ensure this happens.

Are we able to visit our foal before we collect?

We know how exciting it can be, you've chosen your new foal and can't wait to get it home to join your family. Of course you can come and visit and you'll always have a warm welcome but we do ask that you give us a ring to arrange a time as we would hate to be out when you call. We encourage your visits and want you to bond with your horse as soon as possible, it would also be the ideal opportunity for you to ask any questions and maybe learn a bit about the horses if you're new to all of this.

Who insures my horse?

AA horse is the property of Draenen Ddu Falabella Stud, Falabella Wales until such time as it is paid for in full at which point ownership is transferred. The horses are only our responsibility while they are on our property. Please make sure that you arrange your own insurance for the horse you have purchased prior to removing it from our property as we cannot accept any responsibility for the horse after this. Any loss/damage or ill effect to the horse once it leaves our property is the responsibility of the new owner. Prior to purchasing a horse you are encouraged to view the horse, ask as many questions as you wish and we will always be very open and honest with you. We strongly recommend vetting which is more than welcome (I’m afraid you must cover the cost of this) but all horses are sold as seen.

Horse Passports and DNA Testing

Please be assured, your paperwork will be ready for you to take with you when you collect your horse. Our horses are all microchipped too. Please note that all visiting mares must be accompanied by passports for the duration of their stay.

Visiting Mares

The covering fee is £250 (which must be paid in full upon arrival and certainly before a covering certificate can be issued). This fee includes your mare being covered in-hand every other day whilst she remains in season. If your horse returns into season before 1st October please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to arrange one further free covering at a mutually agreed date as long as we still own a stallion.
Please note: Draenen Ddu reserve the right to request swabs are taken to ensure your mare is free from infection (this is purely to protect our own stallion and other mares he is covering). If the season of your mare lasts unusually long i.e. more than 7 days we will refrain from letting our stallion cover her until she has been seen by a Vet.
The cost of livery whilst your mare is at our stud is £2 every day. This cost includes stabling, bedding and hay, any hard feed is either to be supplied by the registered owner or, alternatively, please let us know prior to your stay what hard feed you require and we will purchase this and charge it to you prior to the mare leaving our stud.
The cost of covering and livery is to be paid in full and payment cleared before your mare leaves our property please.
We ask that all mares must be wormed prior to arrival at our stud (we would recommend that you arrange for a sample to be sent off to Westgate Laboratory as we will require a copy of the results).
You are reminded that it is your responsibility to insure your mare for her visit as no responsibility will be taken by us for any loss, damage or ill health suffered to/by your mare during her visit and you will also be liable for any damage caused to our horses or any third party. This said, please be assured that your horse will receive the best of attention during her stay.
It is your responsibility to pay for the Vet or Farrier as necessary during your mares stay. If we feel at any time that your horse is in need of veterinary assistance, we will obviously endeavour to call you first of all but we need to emphasise the fact that no horse will go untreated where we deem it necessary whilst they are in our care and in leaving your horse with us you agree that all veterinary fees for your horse will be your responsibility and we will ask that the Vet sends the invoices direct to you. The Veterinary Practice that we use is Cotts Equine Clinic in Narberth which is somewhere in the region of 15 miles from our Stud.
In leaving your horse on our property you agree in full to these terms and conditions.
In the event that you decide not to insure your horse please be aware that your horse is staying entirely at your own risk and we accept no responsibility whatsoever for any loss/damage to or by your horse during it’s stay at Draenen Ddu Stud.

Our mare is staying at your Stud, will she be stabled?

Your horse will be treated exactly the way we'd keep ours. If the weather is fine, she'll be out enjoying it, if we have the odd shower we see no reason why the horse would want to be in. In adverse weather conditions your horse will be stabled and fed hay. That said, if you want your horse stabled more frequently please feel free to request this and we will certainly oblige.
|
Will my horse be kept on her own?

Unfortunately yes she will. The reason for this is that although we expect all horses to be fit and well when they arrive for covering, their total wellbeing cannot be 100% guaranteed. Even when we purchase a horse we keep her on her own for 10 days to make sure any illness can be identified and treated as necessary and this prevents infecting the herd. Obviously she will meet up with our stallion but these visits are brief.

Reserved Rights

We reserve the right to run our stud in accordance with the guidelines we have specified on these pages which are all in line with the animals welfare and animals best interests. Failure to comply may result in our stud insisting on the immediate settlement of monies owing and immediate removal of your horse from our property. If the situation arises where bills are not paid, we reserve the right to retain your horse at our stud until an agreement is met with additional livery bills being incurred by yourself at the rate of £2 per day plus Veterinary and Farrier fees incurred during this period as we deem necessary and any legal fees incurred. Interest will also be charged on these at the appropriate rate.

Vetting

At Falabella Wales we highly recommend a vetting. We are able to tell you of any obvious illnesses the horses may have but do not have the expertise that a vet would have. We are able to recommend veterinary surgeries in the locality and will declare whether or not we have ever used them so that you can be assured of their impartiality, you select one to carry out the vetting (you are also welcome to select someone else if you so wish). We will have no contact with the vet whatsoever, other than to host their visit when they arrive to check the horse. All costs for the vetting are yours, they are nothing to do with Falabella Wales. The vet will not divulge the outcome of the vetting to us, they deal with the client direct. Please remember that although you may think that a vetting is just an additional expense, buying a horse is a very big investment and you really do want to know that what you are buying is healthy.
